A Tribute to Kristin Mitchell

Ask friends what they think of first when "Kristin Mitchell" is mentioned, and they talk about her brilliant smile. Kristin was a bright light in people's lives. She was surrounded by good friends who remain today as close to her as they can. Some write emails. Some pray to her, or for her. Some display a picture of her prominently at work or home. She continues to light up people's days.

Kristin's professor of food marketing at Saint Joseph's University, Dr. Richard George, wrote in September 2007, "Not a day goes by that I do not think of Kristin, in a very positive way... Kristin has had a tremendous and lasting impression on me as a teacher. I have dedicated my teaching to the memory of Kristin." Dr. George also said, "I am a better professor and more importantly, my students benefit because of Kristin. I feel her presence when I am in the classroom."

In her short life she was an accomplished flutist, a highly awarded equestrian, a lover of cats, and a scholarship student in college. Kristin also won a much-desired sales position with General Mills. She was about to begin her career in July 2005.

Her friend, Dave, wrote on June 3, 2007, the anniversary of her tragic death, "Been thinking of you a lot recently. I even started to open my phone to try and call you. We miss you down here. We love you."

One of her favorite marketing professors at Saint Joseph's, Dr. John Lord, wrote to Kristin's parents, "Thank you for giving us Kristin! I think that Kristin is having a real impact..."

Kristin will never be forgotten. Her gift to us today is Kristin's Krusade and The Kristin Mitchell Foundation. We honor Kristin, who must be smiling down upon us now, as we lovingly invest our time, resources and talents to educate young women about the dangers and potential consequences of unhealthy dating relationships.
